Hyland

Global Healthcare Services Intern

May 2020 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

The internship experience that I have gained through Hyland has helped me in all aspects of myself. It has provided me hands-on project experience to help me to gain knowledge in the career path I would like to take and it has given me confidence in myself and my ability to succeed. Everyone within Hyland is beyond supportive of each other and the internship program. They are always willing to provide shadowing opportunities and project work. There are also many opportunities to get to know other interns, work with them on projects, and get to see other aspects of the company other than the department in which your position is. As an intern you feel as if you not only were able to make a difference within yourself, but also an impact within the company as well.

Advice

A piece of advice that I would share is to not be afraid to take the opportunity at Hyland to explore your niche. Throughout my time at Hyland I have been able to see many different roles and this has allowed me to gain better insight into what I want to do within my career. Be vocal with what you are looking for and what seems to fit you and what does not. The best part about Hyland is their flexibility and willing to work with everyone to meet their needs.

Software Developer Intern

What I liked

Hyland has an amazing culture amongst its employees. It's an environment where everyone is welcome to try new things and pursue many different work interests. The people there are not only great for asking advice when you come to an obstacle in your work, but they 're also great people to chat and make friends with. I'm also extremely grateful that Hyland continued their internship program remotely through the ongoing pandemic, and it shows how much they value their interns.

What I wish was different

With the remote format, there were not as many opportunities to interact with new people at the office and there were many more meetings that my coworkers had to be busy with, but it still worked out well.

Advice

During the time at Hyland, it's a great idea to get make as many connections as you can. Introduce yourselves to people on the team, connect with them online, and expand your professional network. Not only will these connections help if you ever need technical advice, but also with future career efforts after you graduate college and pursue a full-time job.

Software Development Intern

What I liked

I liked the option to have a remote internship and apply my education to my job.

What I wish was different

I’d rather have a full time internship this past summer instead of part time. Last internship they normally are full time but with the pandemic we were moved to part time.

Advice

Ask questions and learn from your teammates.

Everything! The company culture and co-workers were amazing to work with. Everyone was very nice and I felt like I was contributing important work to help the company. Would 100% recommend.

What I wish was different

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask questions while working on your projects. Everyone is extremely nice and very much willing to help you get on the right path!

Marketing Intern

May 2019 - August 2020 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

The most important aspect of Hyland is the people. No matter what team you are working alongside or the people you meet throughout your internship, everyone is incredibly helpful, personable, and enjoyable to work with. This kind of positive and encouraging environment is what makes Hyland such a great place to work at, and more importantly, a conductive environment to gain a ton of experience and skills. I have interned here for two consecutive summers now and my network and connections within the company have only grown even with this summer being a virtual internship. The HR team made the transition seamless and my team put all the effort they could into keeping us in sync and connected each day. Hyland prioritizes their employees and it is transparent through the happy and passionate people that work there.

Advice

My main piece of advice is to be yourself. I suggest 'be yourself' because Hyland is full of extremely talented and unique individuals and if you allow yourself to open up and be comfortable with who you are as a person, everyone will get to know you for who you genuinely are, not just the 100% professional side you only show at work. One other small piece of advice is to take advantage of all the resources Hyland provides (and they have many)! If you are working from home there are workout classes via Zoom you can participate in or if you are in the office you can get a haircut/massage for a very low price. As well, they have their own learning platform to develop your professional and technical skills - the list of benefits/perks goes on and on! In conclusion, 1) be yourself and you will stand out, 2) take advantage of all the amazing benefits that this company is handing you to be a better, healthier, and happier version of yourself!

What I liked

Fantastic work environment. This is my 3rd Summer internship with the company, and its always fun to work with the people here! The employees are flexible, fun, and friendly, yet very productive. I always feel encouraged to learn more and keep growing as a developer

What I wish was different

This year was remote, and they had to limit the internship hours to part time. Not the company's fault, just the whole pandemic thing

Advice

Always ask questions, don't be afraid if you don't know something, the employees here are extremely friendly

Data Analyst Intern

What I liked

Hyland has a very good all-around atmosphere as a company. Everyone I worked under was welcoming and very understanding. They gave me fulfilling tasks and were very patient with any issues I encountered.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have met more people around the company. I also wish I had more time to work under my higher ups so that I could have learned more about the programs I was working with.

Advice

Make an effort to get to know multiple people in every department of the company. They are very social and welcoming, and can help guide you to the position that they think fits best for you.

Intern

June - August 2020 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

They did a great job adapting the internship program virtually. I got lots of hands on experience and still got to network with senior execs and other departments

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to interact with interns more. I was the only intern in my department

Advice

Start your application early! The process took a few weeks and was ultimately worth it

Process Engineer Intern

May - August 2023 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

A large company environment that provided numerous opportunities for social networking and experience. I met lots of new people who helped me grow personally and professionally. I learned new software and how I can help others with that software through projects and personal experiences. Overall, the company embraced flexibility and friendliness more than any other work environment I have worked in.

What I wish was different

Some of my fellow interns had trouble with communication between their managers. My direct manager/mentor was very attentive and always kept me up to date, but I sometimes had trouble getting through to communicate on project details to speed the process along with higher ups in the organization. Not necessarily their fault, everyone in the organization is usually very busy and that workflow can make meeting times difficult.

Advice

Again, communication is the most important thing at a large company such as Hyland. Keeping up to date with managers and mentors helps projects stay on track and functional. Asking questions helps to withdraw more details in a way that can assist project development. Keeping the project together requires all of the participating members to stay on the same page.
