UPS (United Parcel Service)

Business Development and Sales Intern

June - August 2017 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I was the only intern so I had a ton of freedom to job shadow any department I wanted

What I wish was different

Wish there was more structure to the internship, I had to be incredibly proactive if I didn’t want to sit at a desk doing nothing all day

Advice

Get ready to be uncomfortable! Ask questions along the way and just be yourself even when it seems awkward

Industrial Engineer

May 2017 • Lexington, KY

What I liked

I am actually involved in several important processes at UPS. The staff is great to work with. The job is pretty relaxed for the most part, and I get to learn aspects of engineering that aren't taught in class.

What I wish was different

I wish my hours were a little earlier in the day.

Advice

Be involved in everything you can, and try to learn how all aspects of the company work together. Don't be afraid to ask questions, or to get help when you aren't quite sure how to do something on your own.

Financial information systems intern

May - August 2017 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I loved the culture there and how everyone was so welcoming. They really want to develop their interns and challenge them to new heights.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a little bit of more training with the technical things I worked on there. It was a nice challenge, but at time very difficult to catch up to speed with what I was doing.

Advice

Use your time wisely! Internships are a great way to get job offers while still in college. Show that you have the determination and learn as much as you can. It can also help you gain other opportunities. I earned two more job offers from two different companies the following semester when I returned to school due to this internship.

Finance & Accounting Intern

May - August 2017 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

UPS is a great company. Great corporate structure, excellent opportunities in terms of mobility and working your way up

What I wish was different

I worked in the Finance & Accounting department of the Insurance leg of UPS (UPS Capital), and the work wasn't super rewarding. But I still worked with great people and didn't mind going into work every day.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions, not just about the work you're doing but also about people's career trajectory and studies. Networking doesn't stop when you get the job!
