Child Care Worker – Conscious Discipline Approach
Henderson, NV | Ages 3–6 | Trauma-Informed, Relationship-Centered Environment
The Child Care Worker plays a key role in supporting young children ages 3 to 6 who are receiving mental health services and family therapy. Rooted in Conscious Discipline practices, this role emphasizes connection, safety, and co-regulation to create a healing-centered environment both during transport and in the classroom.
This position includes traveling with children and a transportation service driver, maintaining a sense of felt safety and connection for each child. The Child Care Worker will offer positive intent and compassionate guidance, using supportive language and visuals to help children identify and express their emotions, make safe choices, and build the skills necessary for self-regulation. Children will be supported through connection rather than compliance, with misbehavior seen as a skill deficit, not a character flaw.
Key Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain a safe, connected, and predictable environment while traveling with children and adults, both indoors and outdoors.
Co-regulate with children, offering calm and empathetic responses to dysregulation while modeling emotional regulation strategies.
Provide developmentally appropriate choices and teach problem-solving skills, guiding children toward helpful behaviors through empathy and connection.
Observe children’s physical and emotional states and respond with compassion and attunement to their needs.
Foster authentic relationships with children and staff, promoting trust, respect, and emotional security.
Support classroom activities that encourage social-emotional learning, self-awareness, and peer connection within a peaceable classroom community.
Collaborate with Day Treatment staff to implement prepared, trauma-informed curriculum materials that align with therapeutic goals.
Understand and apply Conscious Discipline strategies in real-time, adjusting based on each child’s regulation level and individual needs.
Program Mission:
Our Day Treatment Program provides a higher level of care for young children with mental health needs, integrating daily support with ongoing family therapy. The Child Care Worker plays a critical role in reinforcing therapeutic goals by providing consistent, responsive care that supports the child’s healing and growth.
