Café and Hospitality Assistant Manager

Location: Fuel America Grove Street
Type: Full-Time, Flexible Hours (including early mornings, weekends, holidays, and peak/event support)


Overview:

We’re seeking a proactive, results-driven cafe assistant manager who approaches our coffee shop like a family small business (because that is what it is, and we're looking for someone to join our family). You’ll passionately lead the team along with another assistant manager, drive profitability, optimize operations, and work side-by-side in building our café into a local destination. Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Operations & P&L Management

Own weekly/monthly P&L performance—track revenue, labor, COGS, and margins.

Develop financial forecasts, set targets, and implement corrective actions.

 

Inventory & Cost Control

Maintain par levels, oversee ordering, monitor stock, and reduce shrinkage.

Use Excel to build ordering templates, cost analyses, and usage reports.

Maintain strong vendor relationships

 

Leadership & Team Development

Hire, train, coach, and mentor staff—cultivate high‑performance culture.

Set expectations, conduct regular feedback sessions, foster accountability.

Lead & inspire a rockstar team: Coach baristas, promote collaboration, and foster a fun, customer-first environment.

 

Efficient Scheduling & Labor Management

Design flexible staff schedules to match business rhythms and minimize labor cost.

Monitor staffing levels and adjust in real time based on demand.

Be Adaptable: embrace fluid hours to accommodate events, seasons, and shop needs—your flexibility helps us shine.

 

Customer Experience & Brand Positioning

Ensure every visitor receives top-tier hospitality—lead by example.

Gather customer feedback, resolve issues, and maintain café standards.

Deliver WOW-level hospitality: ensure every guest feels welcomed and valued—leading by example and nurturing the team to do the same.

 

Growth & Marketing Initiatives

Propose menu changes, promotions, local partnerships, and events.

Analyze performance by day, weather, or demographic trends to capitalize on opportunities.

Think like a business owner: help define goals, evaluate success, brainstorm growth ideas, and participate in marketing, brand development, and local partnerships.

 

Required Skills & Experience:

Proven management experience in hospitality and/or cafes

Strong financial acumen—comfortable with budgets, forecasts, and profit models

Advanced Excel skills (spreadsheets, templates, reporting)

Excellent organization and scheduling capabilities

Leadership qualities—motivational, communicative, decisive

Customer-focused attitude with strategic business vision

Flexibility to work during opening hours, events, and busier periods
