Adaptive Recreation After-School Aide
Hourly Wage: Starting at $17.20
Work Schedule: 4-20 hours per week during the Tempe school districts school year (July – May).
Looking for availability 1 – 5 days/week, Monday – Friday, between 1:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. Shift times can vary (1:30-6, 2-6, 2:30-6, 3-6, etc.) depending on staff availability and need.
Additional hours may be available to work in other Adaptive Recreation programs throughout the year depending on program need and staff availability.
This is a Temporary Non-Benefitted position
Experience & Training:
LEAP is a City of Tempe recreational after-school program for middle and high school students with intellectual and developmental disabilities who attend school in the Tempe Elementary School District and Tempe Union High School District. The focus of the program is life skill development and enrichment through various recreational activities, including arts & crafts, STEM, physical activities, and others. LEAP provides a safe space for the needs of the students while promoting socialization and skill development as they advance through school. This is a State of Arizona-approved program through a contract with the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD).
- 1 or more years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in an organized or professional setting, such as organized recreational, childcare, educational, day or related programs.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Adaptive Recreation can assist in providing resources to obtain the following:
- Valid CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, or ability to obtain within 30 days.
- Valid Article 9 certification, or ability to obtain certification within 30 days.
- Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card from State of Arizona, or ability to obtain within 30 days.
- Valid driver’s license or state identification card.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist in planning and implementing recreational activities for youth and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Ensure and maintain a safe program environment.
- Enforce appropriate and effective participant rules and discipline procedures; address and redirect behavior issues, as needed.
- Work as a team with other staff to ensure a positive and successful experience for participants.
- Address and tend to personal care needs of students where toileting, diapering and lifting may be required.
- Interact and communicate with other staff, parents and other individuals in a positive and professional manner.
- Maintain facility, report problems, clean up and ensure overall safety of environment.
- Supervise the use, care and maintenance of all supplies and equipment.
- Inform LEAP Supervisor of any problems and help resolve them.
- Other related duties as assigned.
