Youth Education & Mentorship Program Associate

What You Will Do 

The Youth Education & Mentorship Program Associate is a member of the BCNC Youth Center team. At the Youth Center, you will provide opportunities for youth to build connections, explore, and understand community needs. You will work to strengthen high school youth through education, job training, and guidance so they can pursue higher education, secure a stable career, and become future leaders. You will report directly to the Director of Youth Program. 

 

In this role, you will:

Mentor Intake & Onboarding

  • Conduct initial intake meetings with all incoming mentors
  • Plan and facilitate mentor training sessions (with materials provided by CAPS staff) to ensure mentors readiness for their roles
  • Attend relevant Mass Mentor Partnership (MMP) mentorship training on best mentoring practices to enhance mentors support that aligns with program needs

Mentor-Student Matching & Support

  • Collaborate with College Access and Post-Secondary Success (CAPS) staff to finalize mentor-student pairings
  • Organize and facilitate the mentor-student matching gathering to establish connections with CAPS staff
  • Conduct bi-monthly check-ins with mentors to provide guidance and ensure engagement

Community-Building & Program Engagement (Co-plan and conduct with CAPS staff) 

  • Plan and execute key events to foster mentor and student engagement, including End-of-Year Celebration and Recognizing mentors’ and students’ achievements
  • Providing mentors with a space for learning and reflection in the mentor retreat
  • Collaborate with CAPS staff to develop and distribute monthly mentorship talking points to guide mentors in their conversations with their mentees

Program Development and Implementation

  • Design and implement grant-supported youth programming focused on STEM, exploration, leadership development, and community connection
  • Lead weekly in-person workshops for youth
  • Establish a welcoming and inclusive space for youth to explore identities, interests, and future goals

Program Administration and Supervision 

  • Maintain accurate program records, files, and documentation
  • Submit required documentation in a timely manner
  • Supervise 1-2 volunteers and/or interns

Operations and Program Support

  • Respect the BCNC Youth Center at community events
  • Oversee logistics and supply ordering
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor

 

What We Look For

  • Associate degree required. A bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • At least 1-2 years of related experience preferred
  • Experience working with Asian American and immigrant youth
  • Familiarity with college access, postsecondary planning, and STEM exposure
  • Experience with group facilitation and/or one-on-one advising
  • Commitment to youth-centered, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive educational practices
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Professional working proficiency in Mandarin or Cantonese (or both) is a plus

Working Conditions 

  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule and may require local travel during the workday
  • Work is performed primarily in a standard work environment, including the operation of computer equipment, and physical demands associated with a traditional work setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions, as necessary
