About Us: General Store is an arbiter of beautifully well-imagined works from the creative minds of many inspiring craftsmen, bringing thoughtful, functional design to our local community and abroad.
With encouragement from friends and neighbors in the Outer Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco, our first store was founded in 2009 as a collaboration between Serena Mitnik-Miller and Mason St. Peter. In 2012, we opened our second location in Los Angeles with our friends Hannah Henderson and John Moore, as a natural step in growing our family and adding to our offering of visionaries and creatives.
Position Overview: We’re seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Sales Associate to join our team. In this role, you will be the face of our store, responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, driving sales, and helping to maintain a visually appealing and organized store environment. You’ll work closely with our team to ensure that our customers have a memorable shopping experience and feel connected to the unique stories behind our products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Service: Provide outstanding service to all customers by greeting them warmly, understanding their needs, and offering personalized recommendations based on their preferences.
- Sales: Drive sales through effective product knowledge, upselling, and cross-selling, while maintaining a focus on achieving store sales goals.
- Product Knowledge: Develop a deep understanding of our products and the artists and designers behind them to effectively communicate their unique qualities and stories to customers.
- Store Maintenance: Ensure that the store is clean, organized, and visually appealing at all times. This includes arranging displays, restocking merchandise, and managing inventory.
- Transactions: Accurately process transactions using the point-of-sale system, handle cash, and manage returns and exchanges.
- Customer Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with customers to encourage repeat business and positive word-of-mouth.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other team members to support store operations, including receiving and organizing new shipments, and participating in store events and promotions.
Qualifications:
- Previous retail experience preferred, especially in clothing or home decor, but not required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a passion for delivering exceptional customer service.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic math skills and familiarity with point-of-sale systems.
- An interest in independent and small business products, with a genuine enthusiasm for promoting unique and artisanal items.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and occasional extended hours as needed.
