Basic Function
The Student Identity and Sexual Education Liaison, under an assigned supervisor, plays a critical role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students, with a particular emphasis on LGBTQ+ students. This position implements identity development initiatives, supports sexual misconduct education and response, and enhances campus and community engagement. The liaison works collaboratively to deliver trauma-informed interventions, develop and host educational and cultural events, and provide faculty, staff, and students training.
Representative Duties
LGBTQ+ Student Academic Development and Growth
• Implement and support student identity development with a focus on LGBTQ+ students.
• Assist in enhancing student access to BC services, including all identities.
• Provide trauma-informed, on-scene response and intervention services.
• Offer direct support and resource referrals and maintain confidentiality for students facing interpersonal challenges.
• Collaborate with campus partners to provide basic needs like housing, food assistance, and health services.
Campus Programming for LGBTQ+ and Sexual Misconduct Response
• Coordinate and implement LGBTQ+ events and awareness months (e.g., Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, LGBTQ+ Pride Month).
• Support the college in fostering a safe and inclusive campus community through direct services, advocacy, and programming.
• Develop and implement campus and community outreach efforts to prevent sexual misconduct and support affected individuals.
• Cultivate relationships with community stakeholders and represent BC at public events.
Training and Workshops for BC Employees and Students
• Assist in training students, staff, and faculty on topics including Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking, Sexual Assault, Healthy Relationships, and LGBTQ+ inclusion.
• Create training materials and outlines for educational presentations.
• Participate in debriefing and direct service meetings to improve outreach and education.
• Provide education on support services and reporting options for sexual misconduct.
Other Duties as Assigned
• Serve as a liaison between BC, community stakeholders, and campus partners.
• Track and maintain records of activities and adhere to confidentiality policies.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and other relevant campus committees.
• Identify and pursue programs addressing student equity and campus climate.
• Perform additional tasks aligned with supporting LGBTQ+ student success and campus safety.
• Perform other responsibilities aligned with the role's mission to support a safe and inclusive environment for all Bakersfield College students.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience supporting LGBTQ+ students and addressing the needs of marginalized populations
• Strong knowledge of sexual misconduct education, trauma-informed care, and identity development theories.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills to plan and implement large-scale educational programs and events.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice in higher education.
• Experience providing direct services or crisis intervention in a college or community-based setting.
• Familiarity with the California Community College system and equity initiatives.
• Training or certification in trauma-informed care, sexual misconduct prevention, or LGBTQ+ advocacy.
