Term of employment: 560 hours (Sept. – Dec. 2025)
Pay rate: $17.00 per hour
Reports to: Conservation Stewardship Manager
Position Summary: The Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) seeks two temporary, full-time field technicians to join the conservation team to conduct and promote habitat management and restoration activities on nearly 17,000 acres of conserved lands throughout the Galveston Bay watershed. GBF staff will provide habitat restoration and native plant nursery management training, supervision, and direct feedback throughout the entirety of the ~15-week term.
Specific Duties
Assist with land conservation management activities for habitat restoration of coastal prairie, mixed hardwood forest, and freshwater wetland including:
- Mechanical removal and herbicide treatment of invasive species, brush clearing, fence/gate repair, trail maintenance, landscaping, and irrigation duties, etc.
- Plant material collections for propagation and assistance in prairie and wetland nursery operations
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess:
- Demonstrated prior experience in field work
- Ability to work alone and navigate to remote locations using a map
- Ability to work well with partners, staff, and community volunteers
- Ability to take instruction and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
- Experience with Microsoft products (Word, Outlook and basic Excel spreadsheets)
Special Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work outdoors for up to an eight-hour day in conditions associated with coastal environments (possible dense vegetation, biting insects, inclement weather etc.) and variable weather conditions
- Experience preferred operating small equipment (chainsaws, weed eaters, various other land management tools)
- Experience preferred pulling trailers and operating four-wheel drive vehicles
