As an integral part of Habitat for Humanity of the New River Valley’s ReStore team, the ideal candidate will be responsible and conscientious and demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. Duties within the ReStore include customer service, restocking merchandise from donors, working in the warehouse as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures the proper handling of all materials donated to Habitat for Humanity
- Supports the Warehouse Coordinator in reaching daily, monthly, and annual goals
- Sets positive examples for employees, volunteers, and community service workers
- Customer service, sales assistance, and assistance to donors assist with managing a pick-up and delivery schedule, including direct communications with potential donors
- Overseeing volunteers as needed, making their experience meaningful
- Processing cash, credit card, and check transactions following established procedures for each type of sale
- Daily cleaning and organization of ReStore, including merchandising and displays
- Answering questions and providing ReStore information and directions, meeting the caller’s needs
- Maintaining an effective working relationship with ReStore staff, volunteers, Habitat homeowners, and ReStore customers
- Driving Habitat vehicles to pick up and deliver donated goods, as back up
- Loading, unloading, sanitizing, and getting all donated materials ready for sale
- Screening for product usability when donors call or bring in donations
- Committed to a safe work environment

The position requires occasional interaction with the Habitat for Humanity Executive Director, Chief Operations Officer, and Volunteer Coordinator. Candidate should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in groups.
Specific Knowledge and Skills Required:
- A professional demeanor and effective communication skills
- Ability to spend most of the day standing or moving about the ReStore. Work may require climbing ladders, considerable standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching in awkward and tiring positions
- Must be able to lift and position up to 80 pounds safely
- Ability to work in seasonal weather elements
- Familiarity with and commitment to Habitat’s mission, methods, principles, and structure
- Good customer service and communication skills; ability to interact with donors, customers, volunteers, and other constituents in-person, by phone, and in writing
- Must provide a copy of driving record (within 30 days) if trained as a back up driver
- Must pass any applicable background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience driving a forklift, and box truck experience a plus, but not required
- Previous customer service experience

Salary: From $12.00 per hour
