Crew Lead Field Technician

Position title:                         Crew Lead Field Technician

No. positions available:   One (1)

Classification:                        Full-time, temporary

Term of employment:       560 hours (Sept. – Dec. 2025)

Pay rate:                                     $17.00 - $20.00 per hour, commensurate with experience

Reports to:                            Conservation Stewardship Manager 

Position Summary: The Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) seeks one temporary, full-time lead field technician to join the conservation team to conduct and promote habitat management and restoration activities on nearly 17,000 acres of conserved lands throughout the Galveston Bay watershed. 

Specific Duties

Assist with land conservation management activities for habitat restoration of coastal prairie, mixed hardwood forest, and freshwater wetland including:

  • Mechanical removal and herbicide treatment of invasive species, brush clearing, fence/gate repair, trail maintenance, landscaping, and irrigation duties, etc.
  • Plant material collections for propagation and assistance in prairie and wetland nursery operations
  • Maintain equipment, herbicide logs, and stewardship administrative tracking spreadsheets. 
  • Serves as the Crew Lead for Seasonal Technicians that provides training and assistance to the Conservation Stewardship Manager with scheduling property management tasks

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Experience operating small equipment (chainsaws, weed eaters, various other land management tools)
  • Experience pulling trailers and operating four-wheel drive vehicles
  • Experience in land/wildlife management and a strong interest in learning about invasive plants
  • Ability to work alone and navigate to remote locations using a map
  • Ability to work well with partners, staff, and community volunteers
  • Ability to take instruction and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Experience with Microsoft products (Word, Outlook and basic Excel spreadsheets)

Special Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outdoors for up to an eight-hour day in conditions associated with coastal environments (possible dense vegetation, biting insects, inclement weather etc.) and variable weather conditions.
