Position: 1.0 School Counselor
Location: Har-Bur Middle School
Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Student Services
Starting Date: With the commencement of the 2025 – 2026 school year
Har-Bur Middle School is looking for a dynamic school counselor to join our dedicated and caring team. Our School Counseling Program is designed to address the developmental needs of all students and is in alignment with the goals established by the Connecticut’s Common Core of Learning, the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), and the National Standards for School Counseling Programs. Employing a planned and systematic program, each student will develop his/her individual potential in the areas of academic development, personal/social development, and career development. The counseling program is an integral part of the total educational program through which students prepare for meaningful and rewarding lives as productive members of a changing society. In so doing, counselors function in a number of different capacities, including counselor, consultant, teacher, manager, and role model. Counselors work as a team in conjunction with faculty, administrators, parents, and community members to assist students in the achievement of these goals. We value collaboration on problems of practice and frequently work together to brainstorm solutions to unique problems or patterns that arise. Our team of counselors has the opportunity to meet multiple times per week with their department PLC and there are several professional learning opportunities throughout the year to build professional capacity. Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience in a combination of the following areas:
- Understand and effectively respond to the challenges and needs of today’s middle school student population.
- Willingness to design, develop, implement and evaluate a comprehensive, developmental and systematic school counseling program.
- Ability to provide proactive leadership that engages all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services to help students achieve success in school.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to be a contributing member of a team.
- Appropriate Connecticut Certification is required.
