
Construction Estimator
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Lead Estimator to support our preconstruction efforts. This role involves preparing accurate and competitive project estimates by interpreting proposals, drawings, specifi cations, and tender requirements. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in commercial construction estimating and thrives in a collaborative environment with opportunities for professional growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares detailed cost estimates by analyzing labor, materials, equipment, and time requirements.
- Reviews and interprets architectural and engineering plans, specifications, scopes of work, and schedules.
- Performs quantity take-offs for various trades and disciplines.
- Solicits and evaluates subcontractor and supplier pricing.
- Enters estimate data into spreadsheets and estimating software.
- Helps prepare bid packages and proposal documentation.
- Participates in pre-bid meetings and site visits as necessary.
- Collaborates with project managers and construction engineers during handoff and throughout preconstruction.
- Maintains organized historical data, pricing records, and cost trends.
- Assists in identifying cost-saving opportunities and recommending project budgets.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as GED or HSED)
Preferred
- Associate or bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, Architecture, or related fi eld
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 3 years of estimating experience with a commercial general contractor
SKILLS
Required
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with estimating/project management tools (e.g., Bluebook, Procore)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and construction documents
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities
- Eagerness to grow within the construction field
Preferred
- Experience in estimating for residential, commercial, or industrial projects
- Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and terminology
