Nebraska Youth Leadership Council Specialist (Program Specialist I)
Nebraska VR is looking for a part-time (24 hours per week) Nebraska Youth Leadership Council (NYLC) Specialist to provide leadership opportunities for high school aged youth with disabilities to develop leadership skills. Work schedule is dependent on the NYLC schedule, and may include nights and weekends.
If you enjoy working with you and are good at establishing rapport to assist with goals, this could be a good fit! The hiring team is looking for candidates who are organized and can collaborate but also have self-initiative and can work independently.

Office Location: This position is assigned to our office located at 84th & O St, Lincoln, NE.
Pay Grade 5: $25.287/hour
This rate is based upon available budget funds; any offer will be made at this rate.

Essential Functions
- Develops and facilitates presentations to advocate and promote the NYLC to school districts, other state agencies, and the media.
- Establishes and fosters positive relationships and collaboration with educational service units, (ESU’s), schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders to create a supportive network for youth with disabilities to achieve goals of the NYLC.
- Demonstrates beneficial soft skills (e.g., timeliness, dependability) and advises students in informed decision making, interpersonal, and vocational skills.
- Assists students with strengthening their leadership and self-advocacy skills related to their disabilities.
- Directs the NYLC in providing input on disability-related issues.
- Organizes and facilitates council meetings with students.
- Maintains regular & reliable attendance, possesses a valid driver’s license and travels independently, and works in a variety of settings.
Working Conditions and Travel:
This position requires approximately 40% of work time spent in an office environment; the remaining 60% is spent traveling or working in alternative sites such as meetings, conferences, and in the community. There is also approximately fifteen days of overnight travel per year.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in a related field and two years of experience related to the essential functions of the position. Any equivalent education and/or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and experience working with people with disabilities. Experience facilitating and coordinating group activities for youth and young adults.
