Salary Range: $105,000-$115,000

Our offices are based in the heart of the Loop in downtown Chicago, but we are pleased to note that our Chicago office is operating on a hybrid work model (mix of in-office and remote work).
Position Summary:
As an integral part of the Payroll team, the Payroll Manager is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll in addition to payroll-related reporting for 2,000+ employees over a multi-state area. The ideal candidate for this role will be a self-starter who has experience with a variety of payroll systems and can manage competing priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and issue weekly and biweekly payroll, ensuring timely and accurate updates, adjustments and compliance with internal policies
- Review and audit payroll data in UKG, investigate discrepancies, calculate retroactive payments, and coordinate with management to resolve issues
- Maintain and oversee payroll systems and records, ensuring data integrity, completeness, and readiness for reporting and audits
- Generate payroll reports, conduct regular data audits, and support internal and external reporting needs
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
- Manage processing of various bonus incentive programs
- Responsible for post-payroll duties including but not limited to, assembling the general ledger report, storing payroll registers and communicating with Controller and Finance partners
- Manage uncashed check and rapid pay card processes
- Review payroll documentation for accuracy, ensuring payroll transactions meet minimum wage and overtime standards, and final pay compliance per state law
- Audit and approve timecard changes in the Workforce Management system; monitor timesheet and leave request status, and follow up on missing or unapproved entries
- Manage the payroll inbox by responding to administrative tasks and requests including resetting passwords, reviewing the accuracy of all data and deductions, and ensuring proper documentation is uploaded to employee electronic files
- Provide training and ongoing support to managers on the timekeeping system, payroll practices and company requirements and policies
- Assist with running reports from UKG Business Intelligence for use by HR and Accounting departments
- Set up and maintain new and current state payroll tax jurisdictions
- Complete year-end tasks including but not limited to W2 review and processing, ensuring earning & deduction codes are setup correctly
- Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures as needed
- Assist with audits by providing records and documentation to auditors
- Assist in special projects as assigned by management
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:
- 5-7+ years of payroll experience in a high-volume and fast-paced setting
- Prior experience running multi-state payroll and working with union environments
- Experience using an HRIS, UKG Pro preferred, but not required
- Proficient using Microsoft Excel, especially VLOOKUPs and Pivot tables
- Strong understanding of federal and state laws related to garnishment processing, reporting and compliance
- Organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Excellent data entry and data cleaning skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to help a large employee base
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and prioritize workload in a busy environment
- Entrepreneurial spirit with a strong sense of curiosity and a desire to make things better
- Strong sense of integrity and adherence to all prescribed ethical guidelines, including confidentiality
