Vocalist for Progressive Christian Worship

 

Position Description: The Vocalist is part of The Crossing Band and inspires and helps guide the congregation in singing worship music every week during our Thursday night worship. The Crossing is a congregation of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul (Episcopal) practicing radical welcome. www.thecrossingboston.org

 

The Crossing Vocalist is not the Music Director (there is another person in that role). The Vocalist is part of a collaborative music ensemble in a congregation that values
shared leadership. Musicians are responsible for finding their own subs.


The Crossing Vocalist is invited to participate on occasion with other Cathedral worship
events (for additional compensation).


Responsibilities:
● Participate in music and lead vocals (harmony, teaching) at our weekly, Thursday
night worship from 7:00-8:15pm (2 hrs/wk)
○ Participate in music rehearsals starting at 6:00pm
○ Boost full participation in music by the entire gathered congregation
○ Be the vocals in the band
○ Music selections made and sent out by Music Director by Tuesday at 5pm
 
Requirements:
● High level of skill in leading congregational singing
● Ability to draw people into the spirit of the music
● Ability to read sheet music
● Ability to follow the arrangement and changes on the spot
● Familiarity with one or more traditions of Christian worship
● Flexibility and collaborative attitude

Preferred Qualities:
● Ability to improvise.
● Ability to play by ear and transpose on the fly.
● Good vocal range.
● Facility with one or more accompaniment instruments, especially piano or guitar.


Compensation:
● $120 week
● When there are special occasions (e.g. Easter) or required trainings, there will be
additional compensation at same rate.

Position paid as independent contractor
Two month probationary period
Employment is at-will
