Canyon View Middle School is seeking a Part Time Academic Support Middle School Educator to work 17.5 hours a week.

The Academic Support Educator is under the direction of the school principal the educator is responsible for the education of assigned students and will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth. The teacher oversees the school’s WIN (What I Need) classes during FLEX period. Data reports and student tracking is a big responsibility and expectation of this position in addition to working with teachers, staff and parents.

  • Assists students in completing work in middle school subjects.
  • Works closely with and collaborates with classroom teachers to support student learning
  • Performs attendance calls, check-ins and home visits as needed
  • Builds positive relationships with students
  • Works one on one and in small groups with students
  • Teaches a skills class if needed
  • Manages and teaches appropriate student behavior
  • Strong organization and communication skills
  • Efficient and meets deadlines without direct supervision
  • Communicates and works with administration, teachers and parents as needed
  • Knowledgeable in PBIS  and RT Intervention structures
  • Ability to learn and use technology 
  • Collects and uses student data to help students be successful
  • Supports the philosophy and vision of CVMS
  • Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual pupil needs, and utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive pupil learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction. 
  • Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere. 
  • Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction. 
  • Provide and maintain a safe and supervised environment in the classroom and on the school grounds. 
  • Devise and utilize techniques, which accurately measure pupil progress. 
  • Evaluate pupil’s academic and personal growth, keeping appropriate records, and prepare progress reports. 
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means discussing academic and personal progress; interpret school programs. 
  • Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff in academic and personal growth areas. 
  • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission. 
  • Conform to District policies including attendance, absences and evaluations. Attendance must be adequate to acceptably perform listed job functions. 
  • Create an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and/or interest centers. 
  • Maintain professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and through self selected professional growth activities. 
  • Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out of classroom activities.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities. 
  • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
  • Administer group standardized test in accordance with district testing program. 
  • Select and requisition books and instructional materials; maintain required inventory records. 
  • Cooperates with the custodian(s) for the general housekeeping needs in the area(s) for which the teacher is assigned.
