Title: School Psychologist
Qualifications: Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Educational Services certificate with school psychologist endorsement.
Primary Function: The school psychologist is an educational specialist who functions as a member of the child study team to evaluate potentially handicapped pupils and consults with school personnel and parents to provide a school environment conducive to educational achievement and positive social and emotional growth.
Report Level: Child Study Team coordinator,  Director of Special Services
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Observes and evaluates pupils referred to the child study team formally or for screening who display
symptoms which interfere with learning and/or proper adjustment within the school environment.
2. Provides information about the pupil relative to his/her intellectual functioning, overall personality
dynamics and socio-emotional maturity.
3. Participates actively in educational and psychologically related planning for exceptional students in
formulations of child study team classification and students’ IEPs.
4. Assists in implementation and follow-up of child study team recommendations for individual students
in cooperation with the classroom teaching, building principal and parent.
5. Consults in the development, implementation and coordination of special class curriculum.
6. Provides consultation and information to teachers and administrators on mental health related
concerns.
7. Provides consultation in district curriculum development.
8. Provides consultation and assistance in developing state and/or federally related education projects.
9. Provides in-school counseling to pupils as deemed appropriate as a result of psychological screening
or evaluation.
10. Acts as team leader and coordinates all activities of the child study team to which he/she is assigned.
11. Maintains appropriate case records and adheres to adopted operating procedures of the Hillsborough
Child Study Team relative to effective child study team functioning.
12. Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by
the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
