Department Summary:
The Environmental Toxicology Department at UC Davis was the first department created to understand how the natural and manmade environment directly and indirectly impact life on earth. Bioactive compounds exist in all three phases, and each phase has the potential to impact reactivity, transport, and toxicology uniquely. The researchers in this department seek to understand these processes, and therefore research activities can range from basic biology, to analytical chemistry, to atmospheric free-radical chemistry. "Anything under the sun"
Position Summary:
This research project will focus on controlling key insect pests of the California table grape industry, particularly mealybugs and stink bugs. In order to develop control strategies, we must have year-round access to test specimens. Maintaining such access is a laborious task, which takes organization and teamwork. Activities include growing the plants that are need to sustain populations, maintaining the colonies to include feeding and cleaning cages, and conducting basic behavior assays that involve handling the insects, recording observations with data, and interpreting the data.
Key Responsibilities:
1) planting, feeding, and growing plants
2) handling and counting insects
3) maintaining a schedule
4) coordinating operations
5) record keeping
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be pursuant of a university or college degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Enrollment in biological or physical science curriculum is desirable, but not mandatory.
