TITLE: Speech-Language Pathologist
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Valid State License in Speech-Language Pathology
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (ASHA)
- Meets any special requirements set forth in the Michigan Special Education Code for Speech & Language
- Must have (or secure within the first school year) CPI certification
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
SUPERVISES: Not Applicable
JOB GOAL: Utilizing the MTSS and IEP process to help reduce, eliminate, or make adjustment to speech and language difficulties that interfere with the individual’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program.
ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates in universal screening and intervention within the MTSS process for the District.
- Serves as a team member providing diagnostic and programming expertise and contributing to the identification of and program elements for students in need of speech and/or language therapy
- Develops, implements and monitors individual educational plans for each student
- Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of oral communication, speech improvement and early literacy skills as appropriate.
- Provides information, support and counseling to parents and families as appropriate
- Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate
- Implements and maintains valid monitoring and recording procedures of speech and language difficulties
- Implement the District’s emergency use of seclusion and restraint if a student’s behavior poses an imminent risk to the safety of that student or others
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Director of Special Education may assign
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten (10) month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: The Director of Special Education and/or his designee will evaluate performance of this job annually.
