Report to:  ASAI Team Lead and Executive Director

Salary: Full and part-time Support Raised

The Atlanta South Asian Initiative is a part of the work of Global City Mission. The purpose of this initiative is to walk alongside the growing South Asian population in Atlanta. Specifically, this position is focused on international students on the campus of Georgia Tech.

Our Vision: Advancing Mission in Emerging Culture

What we do:

  • We are pursuing evangelism, discipleship, and movement
  • We send missionaries to do cross-cultural outreach, and we mobilize believers & churches to reach their community.
  • We are addressing cultural mega shifts-- especially urbanization, globalization, and post-Christendom.

Role Description

The Mission Catalyst is the primary missionary worker within GCMI.  As missionaries, you will share the gospel, develop evangelistic friendships, plant house churches, and facilitate discovery. You meet people where they are in life and represent Jesus in diverse metropolitan areas.

  • Self-initiate ethnographic learning and discovering strategic inroads into specific cultural context(s).
  • Intentionally & personally initiate cross-cultural evangelism.
  • Apply multiplication strategies, planting discovery groups & simple church communities, forming disciples who in turn disciple others, and developing indigenous leadership.
  • Be attentive to opportunities for evangelistic engagement or leadership development in the homelands of international friends through global cities.
  • Local strategy may include training & mobilizing local believers as disciple makers and to start discovery groups in their communities.
  • As a member of a missionary network, participate in intermittent GCMI activities.
  • Share monthly ministry updates and participate in annual review.
  • Communicate potential ministry partnership opportunities with Global City Mission leadership.
  • When you join the team, you will walk through online training modules that highlight the minimum training required from GCMI and debrief each module with an existing team member.

Qualities & Characteristics

  • Mission Catalysts practice self-leadership. While collaborating through intermittent interactions, you should be self-initiating and self-managing in day-to-day ministry.
  • Mission Catalysts should be learners. GCMI will provide training & guidance. Each missionary walks through a base minimum training through online modules, and we encourage Catalysts to continue learning & developing beyond the base minimum.
  • Mission Catalysts should have alignment with the GCMI Philosophy of Ministry.
  • Mission Catalysts should be committed to prayer and to their own spiritual health.

FAQs

  • What does it mean if the position is “support raised?” Support raised positions mean that each catalyst is responsible for raising their own salary and work fund. While fund raising can be scary for some, we will help give you some tools that will help you.
  • Do I need to be a student and/or live on campus? No. The position will not require someone to be a student or to live on campus.
  • What if I don’t know a lot about Hinduism? Don’t worry. We will help you learn through training and resources that will help you learn the best ways to connect and love South Asian students.
  • Does GCMI have an office space or will I be required to put in “office hours?” First, GCMI is a decentralized organization. This means that we do not have any central office space. All our team members work from home, coffee shops, restaurants, libraries and anywhere else that will allow us to use WIFI and do some work. But most importantly, most of GCMI work is relational. This means that most of your effort and time will be spent with people not really in offices.
  • Since GCMI is decentralized, how often will I meet with other GCMI teammates? Depends. Team members set their own schedules but team mates are available through phone, text and email. However, each team member must fill out a monthly report, attend at least one monthly Synergy group, a quarterly “ALL” team meeting, and our yearly team retreat. Team members will also have a monthly prayer partner.

If I am interested in this position what should I do? Simply email our Director of Mobilization and current ASAI team lead, Joey. His email is joeydurmire@globalcitymission.org. You will be invited to set up a “Discovery Call.” These calls are simply to introduce GCMI to you and to answer questions you may have. There is no commitment made. We simply want to get to know you a little and let you get to know us.
