Overview

  • This is a full-time, first shift position 
  • Salaried Position starting at $60,000
  • Location: Future Foam Innovation Center at 8155 Cook St. Montague, MI
  • You will be a key person on a small team that is focused on the research and development of polyurethane foam technologies
  • The ideal candidate is an organized, self-motivated problem solver, who has a background in laboratory work and is willing to learn new skills. This individual will be able to work well on a team and independently without direct supervision.

Responsibilities

Sample Preparation – 50% of role

  • Create and execute plans for scientifically evaluating polyurethane foam
  • Prepare and document lab samples of polyurethane foam
  • Record and maintain a laboratory notebook
  • Communicate results of sample preparation

Process Operation – 30% of role

  • Assist in scale-up of laboratory formulations to a pilot-scale foam pour line

Physical Testing – 20% of role

  • Operate foam testing equipment to generate data from foam samples

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 4-year degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or related field
  • 1-5 years of laboratory experience
  • Must have effective verbal and written English communication skills
  • Must be able to effectively use an EMAIL system for internal and external communication
  • Demonstrated history of following safety procedures, using PPE and safe laboratory practice

Skills & Abilities

  • Maintain accurate records of research and development projects
  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment
  • Effective, safe and accurate use of laboratory equipment including lab balances, high sheer mixers, viscometers and other equipment.
  • Effectively communicate the results of research

Physical Requirements

  • Routinely move items less than 10lb
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lb occasionally
  • Must be able to occasionally wear a respirator and pass a respirator fit test
