Swim Team Coach

The Stevens Point Area YMCA Swim Team (SPDY) is looking for passionate and dedicated Swim Team Coaches to join our team. SPDY swimmers range in age from 5 to 18 years, and you will be responsible for coaching your assigned age group. This includes planning practice sessions, offering on-deck coaching, demonstrating strokes in the water, and facilitating dry land training as needed. Coaches will also support the administrative side of the program by assisting with team meetings, activities, and swim meets.

At SPDY, youth development is our core value—while skill development is important, fostering a positive, growth-oriented experience for our swimmers is what truly matters. • Demonstrate strokes in the water and provide hands-on coaching
  • Manage dry land training as needed
  • Attend team meetings and assist with swim meets and other team activities
  • Build strong relationships with swimmers and parents to support both skill growth and personal development
  • Foster a positive, supportive team environment focused on youth development, not just competition

Primary Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the four basic swim strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly)
  • Excellent leadership, teaching, and communication skills

Competencies:

  • Passion for the sport of swimming and a desire to inspire youth
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and patient demeanor
  • Strong multi-tasking and time-management abilities
  • Clear communication skills, especially in noisy environments
  • Commitment to the YMCA core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring
