Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Entry Level CAD Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and organizing CAD data for conversion into the ArcGIS Indoors data model. You will work closely with project managers and GIS specialists to ensure that CAD drawings meet the required standards for seamless integration with ArcGIS Pro, following the U.S. National CAD Standard for AEC naming conventions.
Position Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and organize CAD drawings for ArcGIS Indoors data conversion, ensuring consistent layer naming across all files in accordance with the U.S. National CAD Standard for AEC.
- Ensure that all required information is present in CAD drawings, including room numbers/identifications, unit use types, and polylines representing the geometry of levels, units, and details (such as walls, doors, windows, columns, and furniture).
- Maintain consistent and logical layer naming conventions across multiple CAD files, especially when linework for a single floor plan is distributed across several files.
- Verify that CAD text (such as room numbers and use types) is organized by layer and that anchor points for text or block attributes reside within the related floor plan space.
- Identify and resolve geometry issues such as undershoots (unconnected lines), overlapping objects, and self-intersecting polylines to ensure clean and accurate data for conversion.
- Group multiple features for polygons with holes (e.g., hallways with interior cutouts) and ensure proper representation of complex features.
- Convert parallel curves to polyline entities to avoid conversion issues in ArcGIS Pro.
- Collaborate with team members to clarify requirements and resolve data inconsistencies.
- Document processes and maintain organized records of CAD data preparation activities.
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate’s degree or certificate in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Drafting, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Basic understanding of GIS concepts and familiarity with ArcGIS Pro is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Ability to follow established standards and naming conventions.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new software and workflows.
- United States Citizen
Preferred:
- Experience working with architectural or engineering floor plans.
- Familiarity with the U.S. National CAD Standard for AEC naming conventions.
- Exposure to data conversion processes for GIS applications.
- Problem-solving skills related to geometry and data integrity in CAD drawings.
