Salary Information - CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience. Employees appointed to the Attorney or Water Resource Control Engineer classification will receive Recruitment Higher Above Minimum (HAM) rate in accordance with the approved Civil Service Pay Scales.

In addition, note: Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay.

The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board, Site Cleanup Program has an opening for an Engineering Geologist in the Cleanup Program at 1685 E Street, Fresno, CA 93706.

Duties:

Under the close supervision of a Senior Engineering Geologist (Supervisory) and consistent with good customer service practices and the goals of the State and Regional Board’s Strategic Plan, the incumbent is expected to be courteous and provide timely responses to internal/external customers, follow through on commitments, and to solicit and consider internal/external customer input when completing work assignments.

The incumbent will manage and provide regulatory oversight of investigation and remediation projects; perform geological and other technical work; and implement state environmental laws and programs related to the Water Boards’ Site Cleanup program. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: reviewing environmental assessment related work plans and reports, and cleanup proposals; evaluating hydrological and hydrogeological data, groundwater monitoring plans, well designs, and environmental data (soil, soil gas, water, sediment, indoor air); assessing whether the nature and extent of constituents of concern in soil and groundwater have been adequately determined; evaluating compliance with the Water Board’s cleanup goals; providing geologic input to work plans, reports, and cleanup proposals; preparing correspondence and enforcement orders directing investigations and cleanup consistent with Water Board policies, regulations, and laws; and prioritizing case load to support annual work plan commitments.
