Schrank Laboratory Positions

Join the Schrank Laboratory at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

The Schrank Lab at  MD Anderson is looking for creative and motivated individuals at all levels to join our team in the heart of the Texas Medical Center. We are a friendly, multicultural lab focused on tackling some of the most pressing challenges in cancer therapy.

Our Scientific Mission: Our lab investigates how genome instability, particularly in the form of extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA), allows tumors to evolve, resist treatment, and evade the immune system. We aim to understand these fundamental mechanisms and then use that knowledge to develop new therapeutic strategies. A key focus is engineering new antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and reprogramming the tumor microenvironment to make resistant "cold" tumors vulnerable to immunotherapy.

Open Positions:

1. Postdoctoral Fellow. As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will lead a high-impact research project at the intersection of DNA repair, cancer immunology, and translational medicine. Our primary goal is to empower you to become an independent investigator.

  • What we offer:
    • Dedicated mentorship from Dr. Schrank (with a strong publication record in journals like Nature and Nature Cancer).
    • Full support to develop your own ideas and research directions.
    • A launching pad for your career, with the goal of publishing high-impact work and securing your desired position in academia or industry.
  • Ideal Candidate:
    • A recent Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in a relevant field (DNA repair, immunology, cancer biology, molecular biology, etc.).
    • Driven by scientific curiosity and a desire to make a clinical impact.
    • A strong background in cancer biology and molecular biology. Experience with animal models, flow cytometry, or biochemistry is a significant plus.

2. Research Assistant (Ideal for recent B.S.). This position is an outstanding opportunity for a recent graduate seeking in-depth research experience before pursuing graduate school (Ph.D.), medical school (M.D.), or a career in the biotech industry. You will be a critical member of our team, providing essential support for our key research projects.

  • What we offer:
    • Hands-on training in cutting-edge techniques in molecular biology, genomics, immunology.
    • Close mentorship and the opportunity to contribute intellectually to the lab's research, including first-author publications.
    • A supportive environment focused on your professional growth and preparation for your next career step.
  • Ideal Candidate:
    • A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Master's (M.S.) in a relevant scientific field.
    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and eager to learn new skills.
    • A collaborative spirit and a proactive, get-things-done mindset. Prior lab experience is a plus but not required for a motivated candidate.
