The Department of Health Services (DHS)Central Wisconsin Center (CWC) is recruiting for a full-time Laundry Worker. This position will work 6:00 am - 4:30 pm, 4 days a week. Days off will be rotating, with every other weekend off.

CWC is located at 317 Knutson Drive on the north side of Madison. CWC provides short-term and long-term residential services to assist people living with intellectual disabilities in acquiring the personal skills needed to reach their highest potential.

Position Summary

 

As a Laundry Worker, you will perform duties in the laundry washroom, folding room and the central linen area. These duties include sorting, folding, counting and weighing shelf linen, loading linen carts for delivery, and operating washing and drying machines.

Salary Information

 

The starting pay is $16.67 per hour, plus excellent benefits. There is a $.80 night differential and a $.80 weekend differential, which will be combined for $1.60 when working nights on weekends. A 12-month probationary period is required. 

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. These positions are in pay schedule and range 03/08.

Job Details

 

  • All applicants who may be appointed will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. 
  • All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by CWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.
  • These positions have physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 55 pounds, twisting, bending, crawling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
  • DHS does not sponsor work visas for these positions, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

 

Minimally qualified applicants will have:

  • The ability to work independently without supervision, and as an effective member of a team.
  • The ability to work scheduled hours which include four 10-hour shifts per week and every other weekend. Occasional morning and evening hours as well as holidays may be required.
  • Written and oral communication skills.

Well-qualified applicants will also have:

  • Experience performing laundry duties such as washing, sorting, and folding.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
