GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The Accounting Technician III performs a variety of accounting functions in a departmental accounting program. Employees in this class report to the Assistant Business Officer. Work requires knowledge of the state and county laws and policy. The accounts and records maintained by the Accounting Technician III are subject to periodic audit and review by State Auditors and local auditors
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES PERFORMED
- Monitor and Maintain Donated Funds expenses
- Balance subsidiary ledgers and financial reports to general ledger for Donated Funds
- Prepare Vendor contracts
- Research and coordinate with Finance Department payable and receivable discrepancies
- Backup to Child Resources Foster Care and Adoption Assistance payables / receivables
- Backup for Trust Accounts
- Manage agency vehicle fleet use and maintenance
RECRUITMENT STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices
- Considerable knowledge of established governmental and departmental budgeting and bookkeeping practices and procedures
- Ability to understand, interpret and apply laws and regulations to the maintenance of financial records
- Ability to prepare fiscal reports and analyses of financial statement
- Ability to supervise and instruct subordinate personnel in record keeping and other clerical work.

- Knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles
- Knowledge and skill in accounting software applications
- Possess good math skills
- Possess good communication skills including the ability to write legibly and accurately.
- Ability to organize work, follows instructions, makes good decisions, achieve unit goals.
- Proficiency in use of computers, calculator, copy machines, telephones and other office equipment.
- Ability to abide by rules of confidentiality and be respectful of clients and coworkers.
- Ability to understand, interpret and apply laws and regulations to the maintenance of financial records
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school including or supplemented by basic courses in bookkeeping or accounting and four years experience in bookkeeping or accounting clerical work in an accounting office; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Graduation from a four year college or university with a major in business administration may be substituted for the required experience; or a two year degree in business administration or accounting from a community college or business college may be substituted for three of the four years experience; or completion of a one year course including or supplemented by courses in bookkeeping or accounting may be substituted for two years of the required experience.)
