What You'll Do
As a Licensed Veterinary Technician, you'll play an essential role in delivering high-quality medical care while supporting our veterinarians, clients, and fellow team members.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting veterinarians with appointments, diagnostics, surgeries, and dental procedures
- Monitoring anesthesia and recovering surgical patients
- Performing venipuncture and catheter placement
- Collecting laboratory samples and performing in-house laboratory testing
- Taking and positioning patients for digital radiographs
- Administering medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed
- Calculating medication dosages accurately
- Educating clients on medications, preventive care, nutrition, and treatment plans
- Maintaining accurate and thorough medical records
- Properly restraining patients using low-stress handling techniques whenever possible
- Monitoring hospitalized patients and communicating changes promptly
- Working collaboratively with doctors, assistants, and client service representatives to ensure efficient patient flow
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment
This position requires working on your feet for most of the day, lifting patients weighing up to 50 pounds (with assistance when appropriate), multitasking in a fast-paced environment, and maintaining a calm, professional demeanor during emergencies. There is no travel required.
What We're Looking For (Required Qualifications)
Please apply only if you meet the following requirements:
- Current Virginia Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) license in good standing, or eligible for licensure before your start date
- Graduate of an accredited Veterinary Technology program
- Ability to pass background check and drug screen
- Excellent communication and client education skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and support teammates
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Commitment to providing compassionate patient care and exceptional client service
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, these skills are highly valued:
- Experience in a small animal general practice
- Surgical anesthesia monitoring experience
- Dental prophylaxis and dental radiography experience
- Knowledge of EzyVet or other veterinary practice management software
- Experience mentoring veterinary assistants
