Area Agronomist
Serving Clients in Manitowoc, Calumet, Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, Ozaukee, Washington & Brown Counties
We are seeking a highly motivated, detail oriented team member who is able to meet the challenges of the growing season for this position.
Position Summary
The Area Agronomist works with the Managing Agronomist to make sure that client’s fields have the best possible outcome for yield and profitability.
General Duties:
- Scout client’s fields to collect information necessary for pest management and harvest timing recommendations. Communicate critical information to the managing agronomist responsible for making recommendations. Act as liaison between the managing agronomist and client to make sure that questions and concerns are addressed.
- Soil sample collection, usually during October through soil freeze-up.
- Assist with winter crop plans by proof-reading plans and summarizing inputs.
- Nutrient Management Plan data input into SnapPlus. Deliver and explain the NMP to customers.
Growth Objectives:
- Build a knowledge base so that you are able to make recommendations directly to the client when the Managing Agronomist gives you approval. Build a great relationship with clients so that they have trust in your recommendations.
- Learn Ag Leader SMS Advanced so that you are capable of writing variable rate prescriptions for planters and fertilizer spreaders. Also become familiar with combine yield monitors so that you can use the program to deliver yield maps to customers.
- Keep yourself current with precision ag technologies.
- Work toward certification as a CCA.
Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Soil Science or Ag Business or
- 2 year degree from Agronomy Course or Technical School Programs.
- May consider someone with at least 5 years of experience as a substitute for a degree.
Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of fertilizers, chemicals and seeds.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an enthusiasm for agronomy and building relationships with growers.
- Ability to respond to customers with respect and timeliness.
Starting date for this position is flexible, but no later than mid-May 2027.
