Open to undergraduate students with sophomore standing or higher, as well as graduate students.

Edgebrook Farm is an NJ-based farm project providing interns with the opportunity to contribute to the development and improvement of a real agricultural operation. We are currently constructing animal housing (including chicken coops) and agricultural habitats like raised beds for high-profile grows, alongside our completed large barn. Edgebrook Farm is seeking motivated candidates for the Building Science Internship to focus on structure performance, material longevity, and energy efficiency.

Pay- In form of food

We are building a farm stand so there is potential for monetary payment in addition to goods.

This internship provides practical experience analyzing how heat, air, and moisture flow through agricultural buildings. Participants will have opportunities to test material durability, monitor microclimates within animal coops, and enhance the overall sustainability of farm structures.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze moisture control, insulation, and air barriers inside the farm's chicken coops.
  • Monitor and collect climate data within animal housing to ensure optimal health conditions.
  • Evaluate material performance and decay resistance in high-moisture crop grow environments.
  • Assess energy efficiency opportunities for existing systems within our large completed barn.
  • Research advanced building enclosure systems tailored for sustainable farming.
  • Document building diagnostics, thermal imaging, and material testing outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Building Science, Sustainable Design, Civil/Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Standing of undergraduate sophomore or higher, or current graduate student status.
  • Interest in building performance, building envelopes, thermodynamics, and green building.
  • Skills in data collection, environmental monitoring tools, and thermal/moisture modeling.
  • Knowledge of HVAC fundamentals, insulation properties, or building materials is a plus.
