The Nebraska Corn Board manages the corn checkoff investment working to increase the value and sustainability of Nebraska corn through promotion, market development and research.

The National Corn Growers Association is a membership organization and a federation of states that works with and for the corn states in the U.S. NCGA exists to coordinate the focus, interest and power of their dual membership into a national effort for the corn farmers in the U.S.

 

Timeframe

Mid-May through Mid-August 2027, for at least 10 consecutive weeks on location 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Intern would be mentored and assigned responsibilities on a day-to-day basis by the NCGA staff. Students will obtain a working knowledge of and contribute to the following: 
    • Communication efforts related to NCGA’s mission of increasing opportunities for corn growers
    • Support NCGA’s Communications | Membership | Investor Relations team, including NCGA’s Yield Contest
    • Content marketing to reach farmers and policymakers through earned, owned, paid and shared media
    • Create written, visual and video content across NCGA’s platforms (e.g., social media, web, email)
    • Pitch story ideas and work with NCGA staff to identify sources
    • Schedule and conduct interviews with farmers, staff and industry partners 
    • Fact-check claims and proofread work prior to submission
    • Inter-relationships of other ag industry groups 
    • Opportunities to represent NCGA as assigned in meetings and reporting back to staff
    • Meeting NCGA leadership and supporting their efforts 
    • Knowledge gained on issues affecting corn farmers
    • Intern will attend at least one event supporting NCGA’s corn growers

Qualifications

Any student enrolled in a four-year university with the following qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to students who are junior standing or above 
  • Agricultural background beneficial but not required
  • Interest in writing, social media/digital content, communications, agricultural policy, economics, agronomy, and/or data analysis 
  • Proven writing, proofreading and presentation skills
  • Excellent computer skills 
  • Familiarity with content and social media tools (e.g., Canva, Sprout Social, Reels) a plus
  • Preference will be given to students attending a college or university in Nebraska

Recommended Coursework
Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, Agribusiness, Agricultural Policy, Agricultural Economics, International Agriculture and Political Science

Stipend

The Nebraska Corn Board will provide a stipend which will be distributed by the NCGA, as well as one flight to and from St. Louis, or mileage reimbursement for one trip to and from St. Louis for the move. Housing suggestions will be provided.
