Quality Assurance Technician

Job description:

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Quality Assurance (QA) Technician is responsible for performing quality and food safety verification activities, supporting preventive controls, and ensuring all products meet company standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications. This role supports compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act and the SQF Code.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform pre-operational and operational inspections in accordance with SSOPs and preventive controls.
  • Verify sanitation effectiveness using ATP swabs and visual inspections.
  • Evaluate and document quality of raw materials and finished products.
  • Verify critical control points (CCPs) and preventive controls, including:
  • Temperature monitoring
  • Metal detection verification
  • Allergen changeover verification
  • Inspect finished product for:
  • Label accuracy
  • Seal integrity
  • Weight compliance
  • Coding and traceability
  • Calibrate and verify instruments (thermometers, scales, metal detectors).
  • Monitor environmental and room temperatures.
  • Identify, document, and initiate corrective actions for GMP and food safety deviations.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) implementation.
  • Maintain accurate and audit-ready documentation.
  • Communicate with QA Management, Production, and regulatory inspectors (FDA/USDA).
  • Participate in internal audits, third-party audits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Support food safety culture initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensure compliance with the company’s Food Safety Management System under SQF.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

2. Working knowledge of HACCP, preventive controls, and SSOPs

3. Familiar with regulatory requirements from FDA, USDA, and Southern Nevada Health District

4. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

5. Strong communication and documentation skills

6. Highly organized with strong time management skills

7. Flexible schedule availability (including weekends/holidays as needed)

EXPERIENCE:

1. Minimum of 1 year experience in food manufacturing or QA preferred

2. Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety systems required

3. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)

4. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
