North Mecklenburg Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant with 1 year of veterinary hospital experience to join our multi-doctor practice in Cornelius, NC.

Located beside Lake Norman, our hospital is about a 20-minute drive from uptown Charlotte and within easy reach of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Carolina coast.

Our team works together in a modern, well-equipped hospital and uses current medical technology and treatment practices to provide excellent care for our patients.

We’re looking for a compassionate, dependable, and team-oriented Veterinary Assistant who enjoys working with animals and wants to be part of a collaborative veterinary team.

What you’ll do

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with patient care and treatment
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and assist with post-operative care
  • Safely restrain patients for examinations, blood draws, nail trims, and other procedures
  • Assist with routine diagnostic testing, including radiographs, bloodwork, and fecal testing
  • Administer medications under the direction and supervision of a veterinarian or veterinary technician
  • Feed, walk, bathe, and provide general care for hospitalized and boarding patients
  • Prepare and maintain treatment and examination areas
  • Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, exam rooms, and treatment areas
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment
  • Maintain inventory and restock supplies
  • Assist with maintaining an organized and sanitary hospital environment
  • Provide friendly and professional customer service
  • Answer phones and assist clients with questions and their pets’ needs
  • Communicate effectively with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, client service representatives, and other hospital team members

What we’re looking for

  • At least 1 year of experience working in a veterinary hospital is preferred
  • Genuine interest in animal care and comfort working with patients who may be stressed, fearful, ill, or in pain
  • Knowledge of basic veterinary hospital procedures and patient care
  • Familiarity with Fear Free handling techniques
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Dependable, professional, and compassionate approach to patient and client care
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-doctor veterinary hospital
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from veterinarians and veterinary technicians
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 40 lbs independently
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, squat, kneel, and assist with animal restraint
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

Schedule

Full-time positions are available.

Part-time opportunities may also be available, particularly for evening and weekend shifts.
