Job Summary
The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting for a Special Education Teacher for North County Academy (Carlsbad, CA) of the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE) SELPA department of the Student Services and Programs division. Under general supervision from assigned administrator, the Special Education Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing quality learning experiences, preparing semester plans and daily lesson plans, and creating a stimulating classroom environment conducive to intellectual discovery.
The current vacancy is for a self-contained middle school classroom teaching all core subject matters and requires an Education Specialist credential with mild/moderate authorization.
North County Academy is a San Diego County Office of Education school that contracts with the San Diego Center for Children for its therapeutic services. The purpose of this partnership is to offer a school designed to meet the academic and therapeutic needs of students with mental health concerns. The students are primarily emotionally disturbed but may have secondary learning disabilities. The school is an intensive program for elementary, middle, and high school students to meet their education and treatment goals that prepare them to return to their home district. The school serves all of North San Diego County.
Requirements / Qualifications
This position requires the following Education and Experience and Certificates, Licenses, Credentials:
Education and Experience:
Experience: Experience in the development and writing of Individualized Education Plans (IEP), assessment procedures, and adherence to federal and state regulations for students with disabilities. Experience working with students with mental health challenges is preferred; and
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related field preferred;
--OR--
Equivalency: A combination of education and experience equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education preferred; and experience in the development and writing of Individualized Education Plans (IEP), assessment procedures, and adherence to federal and state regulations for students with disabilities. Experience working with students with mental health challenges is preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Credentials:
- California Education Specialist credential with a
mild/moderate emphasis
- English learner authorization (CLAD or equivalent
document)
- Valid California Driver’s License
- CPR and First Aid certification is highly desirable

A stipend of $6,000, paid out after three (3) years of consecutive full-time service, shall be paid to unit members hired on or after July 1, 2018 who have not received payment under this clause prior to July 1, 2023, hold state certification and are employed as Audiologists, Speech Hearing and Language Specialists, or in positions requiring authorizations for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), Visually Impaired (VI) or Orientation and Mobility (O&M). The stipend will be paid out at the completion of the third instructional year.
This position is also eligible for Article XV: Salary, Section 2.C.5.B of the negotiated agreement between SDCOE and SDCAE.
