What can you expect?

As the Environmental Engineer I you will utilize your knowledge to participate in collecting, synthesizing and documenting data from investigated areas and assisting in the preparation of project documentation, in addition to providing field support as needed including field site supervision.

 

How will you do it?

  • Conduct and oversee site investigation and assessments in accordance with state and federal regulatory guidelines and as directed by project management staff.
  • Prepare technical evaluations of investigated sites using RCRA guidelines.
  • Adhere to schedule and financial objectives, controlling time and expenditures to achieve project goals.
  • Work with environmental technicians and other technical staff in data collection, site investigation, and evaluation of data collected in support of environmental restoration objectives.
  • Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation.
  • Review and document the processes necessary to obtain environmental permits, licenses, and other requirements necessary to achieve environmental restoration project objectives.
  • Review and provide documentation of environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements.
  • Prepare charts or graphs from data samples, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data.
  • Determine data collection methods to be employed in site surveys and investigations.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Intermediate knowledge of the practical application of environmental engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various environmental services.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of RCRA and other applicable laws, legal codes, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules governing environmental projects and programs.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to use scientific rules and methods to solve problems and logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to display personal initiative and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to perform essential functions with minimal guidance and supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to provide consistent level of high-quality work in a high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and confidentially process and maintain data with accuracy with minimal oversight.
  • Basic computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs.
  • Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff.
  • Effective oral and technical written communication skills to effectively and clearly communicate complex information to others as well as to present information in front of a group.
  • Ability to follow a process.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to evaluate data and consider decision impact across multiple areas.
  • Strong decision analysis and problem solving skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions.
  • Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to Calista’s goals.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations, detect unobvious facts and issues, and exercise resourcefulness in resolving problems.
  • Ability to multi-task.

 

Who is Brice Engineering looking for?

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering or other engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of two years of experience conducting environmental investigations with the demonstrated ability to plan and conduct environmental assessments of sites where hazardous and/or toxic waste may have been released from past operations.
  • Must meet ADEC’s definition of a Qualified Professional.
  • Familiar with 18 AAC 75 (ADEC Oil and Hazardous Substances and Pollution Control Regulations), 18 AAC 78 (ADEC UST Regulations) and the ADEC Field Sampling Guidance Manual.
  • A broad understanding of federal, state and local environmental regulations.
  • Valid state driver’s license and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Brice’s Driving Policy.
  • Must pass employment drug and background check.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PE or Current Engineer-in-Training (EIT) preferred.
  • 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations certificate preferred.
  • ArcGIS experience preferred.
  • Hazardous Waste Operation and Emergency Response training with current 8 hour refresher preferred.
  • Experience in federal government projects highly desired.
  • Experience with Health and Safety functions a plus.
