The Department of Health Services (DHS), Southern Wisconsin Center (SWC) is recruiting for an Financial Specialist-Senior

Work hours are 7:45am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

SWC is a state run, licensed and certified Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ICF/IDD). Position Summary

As the Financial Specialist Senior, you responsible for the Client Benefit and Cashier section of SWC.  This position works with resident rights and benefits established by the DHS and the Social Security Administration (SSA). Job duties require integration of information from several complex client database programs to coordinate and organize resident information for a variety of reports. Duties include: 

  • working to obtain all financial benefits residents may be entitled to; 
  • recording and reporting all institutional cash activity; 
  • maintaining fiscal records for resident funds, general fund, and state collections; 
  • filing monthly and annual reports to the Bureau of Fiscal Services, SSA, and various counties.

Salary Information

The starting pay is $25.32 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required. 

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Financial Specialist Senior and is in pay schedule and range 02/13.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by SWC, or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all the following:

  • Experience utilizing business software applications, databases, or spreadsheets for processing financial transactions (e.g., PeopleSoft, Quicken, Microsoft Excel, etc.).
  • Experience with cash handling and financial transaction reconciliation.

Well qualified applicants will have: 

  • Experience with resident, patient or inmate financial accounting systems such as: Insight, Wisconsin Inmate Trust System, etc.
  • Experience applying and monitoring government benefits such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and Veterans benefits.
