The role:
We are currently in search of a skilled facilities maintenance specialist to join our team in Portland! As part of this role, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service and taking on a wide range of tasks including plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, painting, HVAC maintenance and overall building upkeep for all ODOT facilities within the area! This is a limited duration appointment that is expected to end on or before 6 months. Limited duration appointments are benefits eligible and have a designated maximum length of service. The limited duration appointment has the potential to become permanent.
We may also fill this position as a rotational assignment open to current State of Oregon employees. Rotation candidates are required to meet the position’s minimum qualifications. Rotational assignments do not have the potential to become permanent without a separate competitive recruitment process.

A day in the life:
- Repair or replace fixtures, old plumbing, gutters and doors/locks/other hardware.
- General maintenance, and construction work such as patching wallboard, repairing gutters, replacing window panes, repair doors, locks and other door hardware
- Applies protective and decorative coats of paint, and/or other related materials to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings.
- Replace or install systems furniture.
- Purchase supplies and materials to accomplish work order tasks.
- You may occasionally be exposed to dust, hazardous chemicals, electrical and mechanical hazards.
- Requires light to heavy physical movement and requires the operation of power tools and equipment.
- You may occasionally work in inclement weather conditions and use ladders to perform tasks.

Minimum qualifications:
- Two (2) years of:
- a) general building maintenance;
- b) carpentry;
- c) electrical;
- d) mechanical;
- e) painting;
OR
- f) plastering experience.
- A journeyman's license/card in any of the above trades will substitute for this experience.
Note: Be sure a copy of your journeyman's license/card is attached to your application form.
Special qualifications:
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

- Demonstrated experience maintaining commercial buildings.
- Demonstrated experience providing customer service and communicating with various groups of people.
- Demonstrated experience using computers and mobile devices, as well as proficiency with adapting to new technology.
- Demonstrated skills in time management, both while working independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, diagnose and efficiently address building deficiencies in a timely and professional manner.
