Neighborhood Navigator

The City of Fitchburg seeks a dedicated and community-focused individual to join our team as a Neighborhood Navigator for the Leopold Early Childhood Zone (ECZ). This role is essential in fostering connections between families and vital community resources within the Leopold area.

As the direct point of contact for residents, the Neighborhood Navigator will work closely with individuals, groups, and organizations to facilitate communication, encourage collaboration, and organize community events. Key areas of focus include early childhood development, mental and physical health, food security, public safety, employment, education, childcare, transportation, and neighborhood programming.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison between Leopold area residents and social service providers, Leopold Elementary School, faith-based organizations, City departments, and other community agencies.
  • Organize and promote community events and programs that meet the needs and interests of local residents.
  • Conduct outreach to connect individuals and families with resources such as food, clothing, housing, meal programs, early childhood education, and more.
  • Advocate for residents’ needs and collaborate with various stakeholders to support community well-being and enhance the quality of life.

Ideal Candidate Profile: 
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Fitchburg’s Leopold community and be passionate about connecting people with resources that empower and support them. They should be knowledgeable about local services and able to work collaboratively with residents and service providers to help families thrive.

This position is a part-time opportunity working approximately 10 hours a week.  Posting will remain open until filled.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

  • Familiarity with general life experiences and cultural backgrounds of Leopold ECZ residents.
  • Preference for residency in the City of Fitchburg or southern City of Madison.
  • Preference for fluency in a language in addition to English.

Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license for the duration of appointment.

Special Requirements

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Willingness and ability to engage with Leopold ECZ families in various social settings.
  • Proficiency in verbal communication.
  • Mobility within the Leopold ECZ and transportation to Fitchburg City Hall.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to maintain adequate attendance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City elected and appointed officials, employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse individuals and groups.
  • Ability to attend meetings and other functions during the evening and/or on weekends.
