ABOUT THE ROLE

 

E. H. Gentry Facility is one of the most distinct and comprehensive education and rehabilitation programs in the United States. You will be part of a dynamic team committed to a championship philosophy that underscores the genuine belief in and potential of all individuals.

The Vocational Evaluator is responsible for managing the vocational evaluation process by assisting the client in understanding occupational areas which can be pursued. The Vocational Evaluator utilizes standardized testing procedures to identify each client’s interests, aptitudes, and abilities, taking steps to obtain accurate and objective data which is shared with both the client and the Rehabilitation Counselor. The Vocational Evaluator must have a passion for working with clients, staff, parents, and community partners.  From assessment to final reporting, documentation of services in a timely manner along with communication with clients, staff, and our partner organizations is vital to the role.

 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Vocational Evaluation, Rehabilitation Services, Rehabilitation Counseling, Rehabilitation and Disability Studies, or related field.
  • Ability to write concise and comprehensive vocational evaluation reports.
  • Ability to measure academic achievement levels, aptitude, interest, and physical capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret results and make sound recommendations regarding vocational rehabilitation needs of the consumer.
  • Team player attitude and willingness to help where needed.
  • Travel up to 40% to include overnight stays.
  • Be able to lift thirty (30) pounds.
  • Must demonstrate competency in reading and writing Braille by scoring 80% or better on the AIDB Braille Skills Assessment Inventory within the first twenty-four (24) months of employment.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities, primarily working with individuals who are blind and low vision.
  • Knowledge of Assistive Technology, including a background in the use of, Closed Circuit TVs, screen magnifiers, screen readers, Braille translation software and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software. 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Select administer and score a variety of achievement, vocational interest, and aptitude tests.
  • Possess an understanding of a broad range of occupations and occupational requirements, state and regional employment market, and job analysis techniques. 
  • Utilize a variety of testing and evaluation systems and techniques, human behavior, applicable medical terms, and the effects of disabilities in relation to job-related activities.
  • Provide situational assessments and behavioral observations of consumers.
  • Modify tests to accommodate the individuals’ vision loss.
  • Synthesize data and observation reports to make recommendations essential to the rehabilitation process.
  • Assimilate all information into a written report of findings and recommendations to the consumer and Rehabilitation Counselor for use in developing vocational rehabilitation goals.
  • Select, administer and interpret assessment instrument and work sample results when conducting vocational evaluations.
  • Utilize O*NET and Strong interest Inventory assessments.
  • Administer the Career Readiness Certification WorkKeys tests.
  • Collaborate with E. H. Gentry instructors, case managers, and administrative staff to develop evaluation schedules.
  • Collaborate with outside agencies such as the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation services.
  • Input data, attendance, and vocational evaluation reports into the Gentry Salesforce database.
  • Participate in accreditation reviews and activities through CARF (Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities).
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Learn to adapt work flow to accommodate individuals who are Blind, Deaf, DeafBlind, or multi-disabled.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

 

SALARY: $50, 038, - $75,266 Scale PI Rank 53         

                        (260 Days)

 

Direct deposit is required; bi-monthly payroll 

 

This is an exempt position and is not subject to overtime and/or compensatory time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
