Business Manager

Business Manager

Summary: This position is responsible for overseeing all functions and administrative aspects of a growing Theatrical Systems Integration, Theatrical Supplier and Specialized Manufacturing Company. The Business Manager will oversee Accounting, Human Resources, Purchasing, Information Technology, Financial Reporting and be responsible for oversight of other business aspects as needed such as insurance, banking, administration and business development. Most importantly, the Business Manager will work closely with the President and other department managers to align business goals including resources required to find new work and help ensure a long-term strategic growth for the company. The Business Manager will report to the CFO and President of the company and will have 6 direct reports.

 

Productions Unlimited, Inc. is a Theatrical Systems Integration company that was founded in 1997. The company is involved in the design, sales, installation and service of theatrical equipment of all kinds in schools, theatres, arenas, churches, museums and other unique environments. We have Lighting, AV and Rigging departments as well as retail sales, rentals, metal fabrication, special projects and our specialty products manufacturing division. We are a licensed General Contractor and Electrical Contractor. Currently the company has 45+ employees and is growing. 

 

Specific areas of responsibility will include but are not limited to:

Planning and Analysis: Prepare budgets and forecasts on both an annual basis and as needed for new or existing initiatives. Provide analysis on sales, inventory, billing rates, margins and costs. Provide cash flow analysis and returns on investment for projects and other business initiatives. Work with CFO to maintain relations with lenders and oversee all debt and capital obligations. Work with the management team in creating short and long-term goals and developing a viable strategic plan including annual and five-year business plans.

 

Projects: Coordinate with the Project Controller/Contracts Administrator to ensure that projects move smoothly and that resources are available when needed during all phases of systems projects including design, sales, purchasing and installation. 

 

Purchasing strategies and vendor development: Work with Purchasing and Department Managers to develop new relations with vendors, evaluate consolidation of number of vendors used and opportunities for bulk purchases or other deal structures to reduce cost. Work with vendors to develop opportunity lists before projects are advertised. 

 

Human Resources: Assist Human Resources Manager in the development of job descriptions for all positions to allow departments to share skills, knowledge and experience. Assist in screening candidates for new and replacement positions and develop a pipeline of candidates to grow business. Coordinate training, licensing and certification activities to maintain current and expand with new hires and current staff. Coordinate annual employees’ reviews to ensure timeliness and constancy between departments. Monitor travel policy for consistency and fairness to employees and company. 

 

Policies and Procedures: Document all current policies and procedures and develop new policies and procedures with Department Managers. Ensure that effective procedures are documented, and internal controls are in place including appropriate audit procedures. Identify areas for improvement in policies, processes and procedures and work with other department managers to document, while being sensitive to the scale of the business and the impact on employees. Help to develop employee and new hire training on policies and procedures. Establish a timetable for review and revision of policies and procedures.

 

Business Development and Growth: Supervise inside sales, rentals and marketing staff to coordinate and expand the Productions Unlimited name in the marketplace. Provide input and analysis of all risk and return components, including managerial ability to take on new projects, regulatory issues, staffing requirements and foreign currency.

 

General Administration: Serve as a Company leader and oversee the physical plant and general administration including Information Technology, Warehouse, Rentals and Inside Sales. Work with CFO on Asset List management and decisions to purchase or rent new equipment and disposal of surplus inventory or equipment. Coordinate all administrative activities including insurance, banking, benefits, legal assistance and compliance with state and federal regulations.

 

Accounting and Finance: Assist the Bookkeeper and CFO with all accounting and finance activities including the timely and accurate reconciliation of bank accounts, accounts receivable, inventory, prepaid accounts, accrued liabilities, credit card reconciliation and other balance sheet items. Assist with the financial statements, billing, collections, payables and payroll processes. Oversee timely and accurate project cost reports and perform analysis for management to allow the making of sound business decisions.

 

Benefits Information

  • Full-time, exempt position $65,000- $85,000 annual salary based on education, and experience. This is an in-person position
