Job Description
Purpose/Description
Social Service Specialist - Health is responsible for follow-up case management and partner services for individuals who are diagnosed with a Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) and for counseling, testing, and health education. The case management includes linkage to treatment, treatment confirmation, adherence recommendations, health education, reporting and contact tracing of STD's in Wayne County.

Required Tasks
- This employee is responsible for STD follow-up including treatment confirmation, adherence recommendations, health education, reporting and contact tracing of STD's in general.
- This employee is responsible for HIV testing, counseling and referrals to case management.
- This employee is responsible to provide HIV and STD partner services follow-up per the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services guidelines.
- This employee will obtain blood draws for STD/HIV confirmation testing; employee will process the sample for mail delivery to testing laboratory.
- In addition, this employee performs STD/HIV testing, counseling and health education for community-based organizations.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university
- Licensing and/or Certifications: Licensing
- A valid State of Michigan driver's license and an acceptable safe driving record. Candidates must have access to transportation on a daily basis and be willing to travel to different parts of the County as needed. Appointees will be exposed to potentially infectious material and must be able to adhere to universal precautions at all times.
- Certification
- Appointees in this class must successfully complete and be certified in HIV/AIDS Counseling, Testing and Referrals (CTR) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Sexually Transmitted Diseases training and Partner Services (PS) Certification training within 12 months of appointment. Regular status in this class will not be granted until such training and certification is complete and documentation is provided. Failure to complete certification will result in reinstatement to a vacant position in their former class.
Experience Requirements
- One (1) year of full-time paid post-degree experience in a health care or public health setting which includes counseling or interviewing clients, making client referrals, developing/presenting educational materials or have certified HIV/AIDS Counseling and Testing or Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Control experience;
