The Office of Alcohol Misuse Prevention is responsible for reducing excessive alcohol use in New Mexico and its associated adverse outcomes, especially alcohol-related deaths.
Why does the job exist?
This position is responsible for the design and implementation of alcohol prevention policies and programs throughout the state.
How does it get done?
This position is responsible for the implementation of alcohol prevention primarily at the outer (policy, organizational, infrastructure) levels of the Social Ecological Model. The chosen candidate will be responsible for contract development, implementation and monitoring, as well as policy analysis and research. The chosen candidate will build and maintain collaborative relationships with program subcontractors and partners in other state and local agencies and organizations. The chosen candidate will work as part of team with epidemiologists, evaluators, and coordinators in the Office of Alcohol Misuse Prevention and the Injury and Behavioral Epidemiology Bureau.

Ideal Candidate
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced team environment and be responsive to multiple priorities and deadlines while complying with state and federal regulations.
- Experience with substance use prevention principles and programs in New Mexico.
- Familiarity with public health prevention principles.
- Leadership and project management skills.
- Ability to speak and/or write a language other than English that is commonly used in New Mexico
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in social work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education,
Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, and/or Family Studies/Services and four (4) years of any combination of experience including working with communities, working on health or social service-related matters, social work/case management experience, behavioral health, and/or health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting: late hours and weekends work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel may be required.
