Ruby’s Place (RP) is an innovative nonprofit committed to ending domestic violence, human trafficking, and violent crime through hope, advocacy and connection. Our services include emergency shelter, transitional housing, rental subsidies, mental health services, and wrap around services. All our services are trauma-sensitive and client-centered and are provided at no cost to our clients. There are no barriers to participate in our programs.

Who You Are
You are a motivated licensed clinician with qualifications for providing clinical supervision and strong administrative skills who enjoys a fast-paced environment while embracing change and growth.
You have a strong commitment to the field of mental health as well as an understanding of, and sensitivity to, serving diverse populations. You have excellent interpersonal skills, the willingness to expand on your knowledge of trauma sensitive care and an orientation towards survivor-centered services.
You are adept at time management and highly organized with a proven ability to ensure you can meet deadlines, plan, organize and execute. You are comfortable working independently to manage the needs of all clients on your caseload, enjoy working with a team and are an accountable collaborator. You excel at organizing, prioritizing, and following through on multiple demands of your role. You are flexible, creative, willing to grow in your role and take initiative in handling crises. You have genuine interests in contributing to the systematic change including but not limited to providing services to those who have caused harm as well as those who have been harmed.

- A person with a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Clinical Social Work, Marriage Family therapy or related field and registered with the Board of Behavioral Science.
- Experience at a shelter or residential setting managing clinical services and supervising staff.
- Understanding of, and sensitivity to, serving diverse populations as it relates to family dynamics and other aspects of cultural practice.
- A strong interest and vision in program development and day to day management of the clinical department for adult clients.
- Open to learning, being flexible, taking accountability and being proactive.
- Knowledge of community resources, community based organizations and social services providers.
- A strong passion for being part of the systematic change in domestic violence and human trafficking which includes serving those who have caused harm.
- A strong passion in working with a muli-deciplinary team of clinicians, psychologists and medical team.
- A strong passion in overseeing the adult clinical services as related to the Trauma Recovery Services (TRC) and managing all the day-to-day tasks such as supporting the intake process, case assignment, participating in multi-deciplinary meetings, attending all meetings related to the TRC and following through with all the California Victim Compensation Board (CALVCB) grant deliverables.
- A strong passion in program development, research process and expanding on the Ruby’s Place RAFT program which serves those who have caused harm.
- A strong set of skills in managing multiple programs effectively and a keen vision to support multiple shelter sites as needs arise.
- A strong desire to adopt new programs and funding resources such as recovery services and the Medi-cal funding.
- Ability and desire to lean into ambiguous processes of newly funded programs as well as a strong follow through in moving such programs towards success.
- Someone with The State mandated 40-hour Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking counselor certification (this can be scheduled after date of hire)
- In possession of a valid CA driver's license, proof of insurance, and be approved by Ruby's Place insurance as a driver in order to drive agency vehicles.
What You Will Do
The anticipated start date for this position is 2025. You will report to the Chief Clinical Officer and work closely with the leadership team to develop clinical programs, expand services and oversee all programs that provide therapy services, including assessments and mental health counseling, to individuals and their families who participate in our various residential and outreach programs. You embody and promote the agency's mindset, values, and commitment to trauma sensitive care, voluntary services, and a relational model. In addition, this position administratively and reflectively supervises clinical program staff.
Responsibilities include
- Oversee all aspects and duties of the clinical department for adult programs, including all individual and group services, following the agency mission demonstrated by setting departmental goals and objectives in collaboration with the Chief of Clinical Services.
- Evaluate existing contract compliance, monitoring and reporting to ensure all goals are being met.
- Manage the planning and implementation of all the existing programs including (but not limited to) the Trauma Recovery Center (TRC), follow through with all the grant deliverables and expectations.
- Attending all meetings related to the TRC, managing client flow, intake process, participating in multidisciplinary meetings, facilitating necessary meetings, conducting internal and external training , carrying a small case load as needed and managing an overall day-to-day operation of the TRC.
- Provide administrative and reflective supervision to staff who are part of the adult program, included but not limited to the TRC and RAFT.
- Ensure all participants of the adult clinical programs at Ruby’s Place receive mental health services and any necessary referrals as needed.
- Provide consultation on any CPS and APS reporting as needed.
- Managing the adult clinical program that includes but not limited to the Trauma recovery Center (TRC) and those who have caused harm through Restorative Action for Family Transformation (RAFT).
- Support the adult clinical staff with data collection as needed for the RAFT program.
- Follow through with all the existing and upcoming programs
- Support the clinical team of the RAFT program and collaborate closely with the staff of HIS House residential to ensure continuity of care for clients as well as implementation of all the layers of crisis management.
- Support the Chief Clinical Officer in expansion of clinical services for adult clients.
- Ensure all the clinical services of adult clients at all of the adult residential settings.
- Participate in the monthly Director’s Meeting and actively contribute to the leadership team.
- Meet regularly and work closely with the Chief Clinical Officer in order to provide innovative and strategic ways to expand the clinical program and community awareness of mental health.
- Collaborate closely with the Associate Director of Clinical Services for youth to ensure the overall success of the clinical program.
- Provide customized staff/client training and invite fellow collaborative agencies to provide training to shelter staff and volunteers.
- Assess current systems, upgrade as needed to track and evaluate reports for the staff and funding source(s).
- Assist and work with the leadership team and the Chief Clinical Officer regarding strategic and long-range planning as needed.
- Participate in the monthly Director’s Meeting and actively contribute to the leadership team. This includes but not limited to embracing all the expectations as related to associate director expectations per RP policy.
- Carry a limited caseload of clients if needed and per department's needs in order to remain proactive in the clinical and therapeutic process.
- Support the Chief Clinical Officer to develop and maintain the growth and stabilization plan for the clinical department.
- Support, follow through and execute the clinical department to expand its funding and services including but not limited to Medi-cal funding and substance abuse treatment.
- Supports the adult clinical team by attending meetings, supervision and meeting the team at the shelters as needed.
- Work closely with residential staff to ensure all the grant requirements are met and strongly contribute to the collaboration between adult shelter staff and the clinical team.
- Supporting the strategic planning by overseeing timely reports, meeting with funders, providing inputs for future grant applications.
- All training as required by program grants must be completed
- Act as an Ambassador for Ruby's Place in all interactions with staff, clients, partners, and the community. Possess a full understanding of all RP services and confidently communicate internally and externally high-level messaging.
- Contribute to the resilience of the clinical team and work closely with the chief clinical officer. This includes but is not limited to building a strong united front with the leadership team and chief clinical officer, embracing RP's core values and modeling reflection, accountability and exchange of feedback.
- Participate in continuous growth and development that aligns with your role's responsibilities and the agency's strategic plan.
- Fill out a functional timesheet by assigned due dates in compliance with the time allocations.
- Actively participate in reflective supervision
- Create and maintain documentation of processes and procedures in relation to duties of the job
- Other duties as assigned by your supervisor
DIRECT SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO STAFF:
- Assist the staff in managing crisis situations
- Ensure implementation of burn out prevention. The support can be in the form of regular restorative care, effective reflective supervision and regular participation in meetings that are designed to hold a trauma sensitive lens for staff.
- Oversee clinical supervision to the adult clinical staff.
Working Conditions
This position is eligible for hybrid in person & remote work. Time spent on-site versus remote working will be discussed and agreed upon with your supervisor. You are expected to be available on-site as necessary given business needs. You must be able to stand for long periods of time and perform physical activities, including lifting up to 25 pounds. You will be subject to frequent interruptions and must be able to multitask and handle stress.
Local travel in the greater Bay Area may be required.

The pay rate for the Associate Program Director - Adults is $110-$120k per year (exempt). This is a full-time, salaried position, 40 hours per week. This is a hybrid position (flex work), with some days required in our Castro Valley Office.
