Senior Engineer
We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and well-rounded Senior Engineer with a strong engineering and construction background to join our Stormwater Management Capital Improvement Program (CIP) team. This role will oversee a variety of stormwater capital projects from start to finish and support the construction aspects of our stormwater maintenance team. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of construction management methods and a structured project management approach. This position will collaborate with a diverse group of stormwater team members, including consulting engineers, inspectors, the drainage investigation team, stormwater management staff, contractors, and Raleigh citizens. With an annual goal of delivering $20 to $30 million in stormwater projects, this position is vital to the success of our project delivery team and offers significant growth opportunities within the department.

This position qualifies for the City’s Telework Program which provides opportunity to work up to 40% of time remotely.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides engineering and design work for municipal drainage improvement projects (culverts, closed pipe systems and open channels) and coordinates engineering support and project activities; reviews plans, design and project work to ensure compliance with specifications, requirements, regulations and standards. Projects may also have a streambank stabilization/restoration component
- Acts as a construction advisor within the department and stormwater maintenance division
- Coordinates construction activities between our drainage assistance group and stormwater maintenance team
- Responds to inquiries and issues from the public and other organizations; conducts site visits and inspections; researches, investigates, analyzes and identifies issues; recommends and implements solutions to various stormwater drainage issues
- Assists with identifying and prioritizing drainage improvement and stream stabilization projects
- Provides courteous and expeditious customer service to the general public and City departments staff
- Prepares and/or reviews engineering plans, contracts, resource estimates, bid documents, proposal requests, project closeout documentation and various reports
- Monitors and administers construction projects and contracts for scope, fees, schedules, and budget compliance; assists with bid administration processes; processes pay requests and change orders; participates in contractor selection process; and manages the team in the field performing construction
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or directly related field and five years of professional engineering and/or construction/project management experience in area of assignment

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
