The Arlington County Police Department seeks qualified entry-level and lateral-level police officer applicants to join our ranks. 

Police Officers perform a wide range of duties to include community outreach, patrolling assigned areas, responding to emergency calls, conducting investigations, effecting arrests, processing crime scenes, and enforcing traffic laws. 

All applicants are required to be in good physical condition, have a valid driver’s license, be 20 years and 6 months of age or older at the time of application submittal, be a U.S. citizen (no sponsorships), and be willing to sign a non-tobacco waiver (no tobacco products on or off duty throughout tenure of employment). 

Furthermore, applicants must have a minimum of 60 credit hours from a college/university (any area of study), or a substitution of prior law enforcement (1 year post law enforcement academy), or prior military (minimum of 2 years continuous active duty and/or receive an “Honorable Discharge”). There is no age limit to apply.

Police Officers receive the following benefits (summary):

  • $68,503.50 annual starting salary
  • Signing bonus: $15,000-$25,000

  • 37.5-hour work week with 4 & 5 days off (15 days a month)
