Administrative Assistant
The American Baptist Historical Society (ABHS) seeks applicants an Administrative Assistant. The Administrative Assistant performs routine office tasks under the supervision of the ABHS Executive Director and other staff as appropriate.
The American Baptist Historical Society is located in Atlanta, Georgia, on the campus of Mercer University. Position is open immediately and review of applications will begin on February 17th, 2025.
Eligibility Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite programs
Necessary Skills and Characteristics:
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines
- Strong people skills
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
- Initiative and follow-through on tasks, with minimal direct supervision
- Ability to read cursive handwriting
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and use ladder to access archival shelving
Desirable Background and Skills:
- Knowledge of American Christianity in general, and the Baptist tradition in particular
- Experience using simple audio/video editing software
- Creativity and imagination
- Experience laying out publications such as newsletters
Responsibilities include:
- Working as a team member for the good of the organization
- Performing routine office tasks:
- Sort and distribute mail
- Respond to e-mail messages
- Answer telephone
- Oversee office supplies
- Prepare mailings
- Database entry
- File documents
- Prepare and post notices to social media
- Occasional event logistics, including reserving hotel rooms, hiring caterers, booking meeting rooms, setting up Zoom sessions, sending reminders
- Taking minutes for semi-annual Board meetings
