About the Role:
We’re hiring one dedicated in-person tutor to provide small-group ELA instruction to 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students at IS 181. As a middle school ELA tutor, you’ll partner in the classroom with teachers to deliver personalized small-group instruction that empowers students to grow their skills, boost their confidence, and achieve academic success.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work closely with teachers and school leaders to provide engaging and focused small-group instruction in 6th - 8th-grade ELA.
  • Foster a positive learning environment that encourages curiosity and resilience.
  • Be a valued part of a team dedicated to transforming educational outcomes in underserved communities.

Schedule:

  • Days: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
  • Time: 7:30 AM – 1:30 PM
  • Duration: February 10, 2025 – April 10, 2025 (excluding holidays and school conferences)
  • Key Dates Off:
    • February 17–21: Midwinter Recess
    • March 13: Middle School Parent Teacher's Conference
    • March 31: Eid al-Fitr

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: Prior experience tutoring or teaching middle school ELA.
  • Subject Proficiency: Strong knowledge of ELA at the middle school level.
  • Team Player: Collaborative spirit and a desire to work closely with teachers and students.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written skills to connect effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Passion: A commitment to educational equity and social justice for minority and low-income students.
  • Availability: Must be able to work the specified schedule consistently.
