Job Description
Summary
In practice, this position involves a range of duties, including organizing and maintaining appointment systems, guiding customers through the entire sales process, data capture, and contacting new and existing customers, showing new &/or used cars to customers who visit the dealership and explaining the characteristic of various models, being informed of all cars to be sold and answer questions about all aspects of the product.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Actively prospect for potential buyers through referrals and outreach.
- Approach and assist new customers that enter the dealership lot.
- Determine the needs of the customer by listening and asking questions.
- Perform walk-around/test drive with customer and demonstrate features of suitable automobiles that meet the customers’ needs.
- Effectively close automotive sales.
- Ensure the customer understands the vehicle’s operating features and paperwork.
- Follow through on all sales commitments to customers.
- Maintain an owner follow-up system that encourages repeat business and referrals.
- Maintain sales certification.
- Maintain sales quota as established by the dealership.
- Reports to the sales manager regarding objectives, reviews, analyses, and planned activities.
- Attends training and sales meetings offered by the Sales Managers, dealership, and manufacturers.
- Review sales statistics and actions to determine how to better utilize time, plan more effectively, and improve sales.
- Maintain professional appearance and uniform.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous auto Sales experience needed.
- 4 years clear driving record- No previous DUI history or moving violations
- No prior criminal history
- High level of dependability and confidentiality
- Valid driver's license
- Access to reliable transportation

Supervisory Responsibility
This position is non-exempt and has no supervisory responsibility.
Work Environment
Salespersons will usually work 50-60 hours per week on a rotation between 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. including weekends and holidays. Most time is spent in the dealership but also includes working outside on the lot in all weather conditions.
Test drives are common in all varieties of car models with diverse customers and could be required in low light or adverse weather conditions. Job can include loud noises, odors and high activity work. Competition against peers and other dealerships is a common practice as well as expectation to meet aggressive sales goals assigned by the dealer.
Physical Demands
Safely drive a variety of vehicles in inclement weather or road conditions. May sit, walk or stand for long periods of time in all weather and temperature conditions. Repetitive use of arms and legs and moving the whole body such as standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, reaching, grasping, hearing, seeing and talking.
