Occupational Therapy Assistant

Essential Functions:

  • Consults and assists students (e.g. in activities of daily living(ADL), toileting and personal hygiene programs) for the purpose of implementing IEP plans for remediation of functional limitations. 
  • Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services and/or making recommendations and participates in IEP’s when designated by OT. 
  • Instructs  and assesses students' fine motor and development skills (e.g. perceptual-motor, motor coordination, sensory development, oral motor, muscle strength, etc.) for the purpose of determining their deficits and developing recommendations by administering and scoring under supervision of OT, standardized and non-standardized assessments. 
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. 
  • Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. quantity reports, student activities, correspondence, internal audits, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information. 
  • Screens students for the purpose of determining the need for further individualized assessment. Works in conjunction with staff  for the purpose of providing consultative and/or direct assistance to enhance the student’s participation in education.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current certification or licensure as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state of practice
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Occupational Therapy Assistant required
  • One (1) year of experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant preferred
  • Current CPR if applicable
  • TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable 
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
